This bit of automotive gossip comes as a bit of a surprise to me! I expected one of two things to happen to the GT86 line...
Production Cancelled
Next-Gen Hybrid
But if the rumours are true, it will mean that our beloved 86's will get another breath of life in 2021 with an upgrade to a 2400cc engine. A highly welcomed upgrade over the slightly lethargic FA20.
This seems to fall in line perfectly with the newly released 2400cc by Subaru for their SUV "Ascent".

What do we know about the FA24?
2,387 cc displacement
10.6:1 compression
Direct Injection
Twin-scroll turbocharged
194kw @5600rpm & 377nm @ 2000-4800rpm
The power increase over the 150kw 215nm FA20 isn't substantial but the torque increase is almost double. If Toyota/Subaru were to put this into the 86, I hope they configure it more towards high rev-range.
For now though we will have to speculate...or wait for someone to crash their Ascent and see if it fits!
