INJECTION SERVICE

The 86Bible 86 has recently had its Deatschwerks DW700CC Port Injectors serviced by Andrew from A.I Injector Service. Fuel Injectors get clogged over time and will need to be cleaned every 3-4 years, regardless of if you use Premium Unleaded 98 or E85.

The 86 Fuel Injection System consists of:

• 4 x Port Injectors

• 4 x Direct Injectors

• 1 x In-tank Pump and Filters - The filters should be changed as part of the 90,000 km service.

• 1 x Mechanical Direct Injection Pump in the engine bay

The figure below is an analysis of a range of injector conditions.

The ideal spray pattern is the far left as it allows for optimum atomisation. As a Fuel Injector gets dirty the spray pattern can be an Offset Pattern, Weak Pattern or produce Dribble, which is not ideal for combustion. To achieve optimum performance and fuel economy the injectors must produce a good even cone.

We can immediately see from the potato footage below (Excuse the quality, this had to be done in pitch black conditions with a strobe light) that the far left injector and the 2nd from the right injector are exhibiting the Offset Pattern. The other two injectors weren't too bad but were flowing unevenly.

As you can see the injectors are now exhibiting a good even cone pattern. Score!

Port Injector Clean Summary:

The goal of the injector cleaning service was to test the Port Injectors and see what their condition was and to later make the decision whether to repeat this exercise on the direct injectors or to just buy new ones as Andrew from A.I Injector Service expressed that these don't clean up well in his experience.

When I re-installed the Injectors the difference was immediate. I could feel an increase in torque and throttle response. I highly recommend this service to anyone that has felt a gradual loss in power or response over the years or to anyone that recently bought a 2nd hand early model 86.
