Alright, we are all guilty of having at some point looked at the back of our stock 86 and wondered.. WTF Toyota!?! They were clearly paying attention to the 2001 Super Cheap Auto catalog for taillights for 2SEXY Lancers. The good news is that the Aftermarket Industry has taken full advantage of our distaste for these.

1. TOM's

I rarely start with my favourite, but in this case I can't help it. I love that they are a red tint with visually striking turn signal illumination. I know these are getting common but who cares! I prefer them in red tint on a lighter colour car and clear tint on a darker car. CT Auto Parts sell these for $599. You have to be quick though, they sell out light-ning fast.

2. INTEC

In the cool category of taillights, we have the INTEC Carbon set. This one is sure to split opinions with its aggressive no BS design. They have built in reverse lights which is really handy if you want to do a custom rear diffuser and ditch the factory fog/reverse light. I'm imagining a central rear exit exhaust... mmm what were we talking about again? You can pick these up from LED86 for about $1349. I mean... That's what your average turbo install would cost!!

3. BUDDYCLUB V2

In my opinion these are much nicer than the V1 BUDDYCLUB Taillights. They seem more refined and will definitely stand out from the crowd (if that's your thing). I get the feeling that they will be out-dated in a few years in terms of styling. I warn you though, every kid on the block is going to think your car is a Lambo. These can be purchased from LED86 for $799.

4. 2017+ OEM

Finally!! Toyota listened to our collective groans from 2012-2016 and decided to do something about the taillights in 2017! There's not much to say here, if these were my factory lights I probably would think twice about paying $600+ for the TOM's. I have seen these on sale on various Facebook pages in the region of $700, so keep an eye out. Otherwise you're going to have to buy it new from Toyota and I cant see them being less than $800 each.

5. Valenti Variants

If you don't know what the Valenti variants look like then you may be mistaken for thinking that they come standard with the 86. These sold incredibly well as they were one of the first to reach the market. There have been reports of these having LED failures in the past and I can't say if the ones being sold at the moment are any better. In saying that I am sure that the sellers would warrant the items against these defects and they are certainly at the budget end of the market at $369.

I hope you enjoyed our Taillight Talk.
